Charlotte Chinese School was established at the beginning of 1980 and is the first Chinese language school in the City of Charlotte.
Starting in 1992, the school formally adopted the Chinese language textbook provided by the government of the Republic of China from Taiwan. In 1993, we moved a step forward and applied for the non-profit educational organization status with the IRS.
Post COVID pandemic, the school moved to the current location at Southpark Church, 3151 Apex Dr in Charlotte, in September 2022. Currently, the school has an enrolment of over 40 students and is staffed with six teachers. Students are assigned to an appropriate class based on the his or her Chinese literacy, age, and special needs. The school consists of five classes for Zhuyin (traditional Chinese phonetic symbol). The main purpose is to teach the students how to understand, speak, read, and write Chinese. We have added one of the Zhuyin classes for children age four to five (pre-school) since year 2000. That class is focused mostly on engaging the students in simple conversation, folk stories, etc. We are the Chinese school with the most complete education curriculum in the Charlotte area.
The school calendar is in line with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district with the fall semester starting in the late August and the spring semester starting in early January. The class meets every Saturday morning 9:30am to 11:30am. There are two sessions with a fifteen-minute break in-between.
